Innovative recycling

Cleanstream™ recycling

When and where it makes sense for your business, RoadRunner can implement our innovative CleanStream™ recycling services to improve your landfill diversion, drive additional savings and improve ESG reporting.

The Process

The difference between CleanStreamTM and traditional single-stream recycling is recycling more, saving more, gaining reliable metrics and contributing to the well-being of the communities in which you operate. Take a look at the difference.

ROADRUNNER'S CLEANSTREAM™ RECYCLING

ACTIVE RECYCLING = MORE RECYCLING

TRADITIONAL SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING

PASSIVE RECYCLING = MORE WASTE TO LANDFILLS

PRE-SORTED STREAMS + NO CONTAMINATION

Stream-specific bins are provided for pre-sorting recyclables prior to pick up. And, our proprietary Waste MeteringTM technology helps make sure the right materials end up where they're supposed to, keeping your streams clean.

SINGLE-STREAM + CONTAMINATION RISK

Single-stream recycling uses one dumpster for all recyclable materials, often resulting in high contamination rates that drive increased fees on your waste bill and less efficient recycling.

EFFICIENT FLEET

Roadrunner leverages our network of vetted, local recycling partners to make timely collections with more fuel efficient trucks.

INEFFICIENT FLEET

Traditional haulers often use inefficient, fuel-guzzling compaction trucks that are expensive to operate and maintain. This cost burden usually translates as a rate increase for your business.

NO CONTAMINATION AT COLLECTION

Our drivers pick up your pre-sorted recyclables when your bins are 80% full or more so that there's no risk for overflow or lost materials, and drop them off directly at local recycling centers.

CONTAMINATION AT COLLECTION

Mixing your recyclables with other materials already in the compaction truck further increases the chances for contamination.

SORTING AT A MRF

Since materials are mixed, they have to first pass through a sorting center or material recovery facility (MRF). These MRFs require a mix of manual labor and unreliable technology for sorting, leaving plenty of room for error and cross-contamination.

IMPACT OF CONTAMINATION + POOR SORTING

During the sorting process, 60% of recyclables are lost due to contamination from being co-mingled and another 20% are lost due to inefficient sorting. Instead of being recycled, these materials are sent to landfills.

The Results

CleanStream-Icon-More-Recycling 99.9% OF MATERIALS ARE RECYCLED

Since pre-sorting recyclables keeps your materials clean, they can go directly to the nearest recycling center, meaning more of your materials are actually recycled.

SAVINGS

Because we operate asset-light, bypass MRFs, reduce contamination and avoid landfill surcharges, we're able to find cost savings opportunities that help us control your waste spend over time.

ESG REPORTING

RoadRunner provides reliable ESG reporting for exactly how much you've recycled and the resulting impact.

CleanStream-Icon-Community-W ADD VALUE TO YOUR COMMUNITIES

By utilizing local haulers and nearby recycling centers to drop off your valuable materials and recycling more, you create value in the communities you operate in and contribute to a more sustainable tomorrow.

SingleStream-Icon-Less-Recycling ONLY 20% OF MATERIALS ARE RECYCLED

Single-stream recycling uses one container for all recyclable materials, often resulting in high contamination rates that drive increased fees on your waste bill and less efficient recycling.
